SCORES AND PLAYS IN THE COLLECTION OF THE RIGA 1ST CITY (GERMAN) THEATRE

The collection of materials related to the Riga 1st (German) theatre or Rigaer Stadttheater arrived in the stock of the National Library of Latvia in 2012, but the catalogization and arrangement of the collection was started in 2019. The main value of the collection is the library that was formed alongside the development of the theatre (1782–1919). As the Riga 1st (German) theatre (hereinafter referred to as Riga City Theatre) hosted dramatic, opera and ballet troupes, the collection consists of scores, copies of plays and a few other items, such as reviews, correspondence, dance schemes, two business cards, several notebooks, an act illustrating ticket control procedures, a few handwritten papers and other documents. In total, the collection consists of about 2000 items – around 380 printed or handwritten scores, around 1600 books (including several copies of the same edition) and a few other sources.
